MACFlix to Feature "Roxanne" Sept. 19

PARK HILLS, Mo. – Mineral Area College’s student movie club, MACFlix, is offering a free viewing of the romantic comedy “Roxanne” (1987, PG) at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. MACFlix movies are presented on the outdoor big-screen on the Park Hills campus quadrangle (the waterfall area). Viewers have only to bring their lawnchairs, blankets and snacks to enjoy the show.
 
The film, a modern version of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” features Steve Martin as the ridiculously-big-nosed protagonist helping his ridiculously-handsome (but romantically ham-handed friend) woo the most beautiful girl in town (played by Darryl Hannah). Alas, the two don’t know it, but Martin’s character is utterly, secretly in love with her himself. But can she love a man who, “when he washes his face, he loses the bar of soap”?
 
Dr. Kevin White, sponsor of MACFlix, said “Roxanne” is a great romantic-comedy gem from the 1980s, with Steve Martin in his best acting role.
 
“Although he’s not the 'jerk’ or a ‘wild and crazy guy’ in this one, he’s still very funny and much more realistic -- even though his nose is incredibly long,” White said. “The movie is extremely beautiful to look at, with a whole line of fun and lovable characters who occupy this town set in the Pacific northwest. Once you’ve watched this film, you’ll be wishing that you could live there.”
 
The remaining movie in this fall’s MACFlix Classic Film Series will be “Time After Time,” shown Saturday, Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.

All MACFlix movies are digitally re-mastered and presented with an high-quality projector/sound system in a theatre environment.
