Downtown Study

A study of the history and architecture in downtown Park Hills is about to begin under the auspices of the City’s Community Development Department. The project is being funded by a grant to the City from the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office, which in 2019 identified an area along West Main Street, generally between Science Street and Community Drive, that appears to be eligible for designation as a historic district. The approximately 43-acre area includes upwards of 85 individual buildings on both sides of the street.

This project will kick off on March 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. with a public meeting at Park Hills Council Chambers that will be facilitated by historic preservation consultant David Taylor, who has been retained by the City of Park Hills to undertake the study.

This study is the first step in assessing the area’s potential for listing in the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. Such a designation would impose no restriction on private property rights but could make significant state and federal financial incentives available to property owners and could provide a significant marketing tool for the community.

Consultant Taylor will be in town photographing the properties in the area in order the undertake the study and assess the area’s architectural and historical significance.

The meeting is open to the public and further information can be secured from Tyler Henson, Community Development Director at 573-431-3577 Ext. 32 (CDDirector@parkhillsmo.net) or from Consultant David Taylor at 814-648-4900 (tta.david@gmail.com).
